The currency of the game is the [**RIOT token**](https://whitepaper.riot.fun/riot-game-token), a fungible ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain. Players use RIOT tokens to enter races, upgrade vehicles, earn in-game rewards, and more. You can buy RIOT on [Uniswap](https://app.uniswap.org/#/swap?inputCurrency=ETH\&outputCurrency=0xf56408077487cB879c992909C5b5C66D68c02Eb4) or [Quickswap](https://quickswap.exchange/#/swap?outputCurrency=0x4FF0b68ABc2b9E4e1401E9b691DBa7d66B264AC8), or you can get it in the in-game wallet after logging in. 2. Review the Race Conditions (Weather, Track, Pit).
3. Choose a car and driver (based on the Race Conditions) to race with.
4. Pay the entry fee (gas for your car) using the in-game wallet (skip this step for free races).
5. Wait for the race to complete (they start when enough people have entered) and see your results! Viewing the race in a 3D video is coming in March 2022.

Winners of the race receive a portion of the prize pool, which is made up from the gas fees for that race. First place earns 50% of the prize pool; second place gets 30%; and third place takes home 20% of the prize pool. Winnings are paid out in RIOT Tokens.

### **RIOT Rewards**

Owners of Mechanic Shops, Racetrack Land, and Gas Stations earn a portion of the car upgrade fees and the race entry (gas) fees in RIOT Tokens. These tokens can be claimed in the Riot Racers website app.

Racers that place in first, second, and third places win RIOT tokens. These tokens are automatically deposited in Racers' in-game wallet and can be withdrawn or used for various in game activities like car upgrades, race entry fees, and asset name changes.

# Terms & Strategy Tips

Game terms are defined below. Strategy Tips are purposely cryptic. How fun would it be if the game was easy?

**Profile** - This is your Riot Racers profile page that showcases the different assets you own. It is customizable in the Riot Racers website app and can be found at riotracers.com/rr/YOUR-USER-NAME.

**Drivers** - Drivers impact 20% of the outcome of the race and have the following skill traits: Speed, Braking, Handling, Endurance, and Vision. Skill traits range from 50 to 100. Each driver also has an overall rating that is the sum of all the skill trait values and gives you a high level view of how skilled the driver is. Drivers can also be renamed by selecting the driver and clicking the pencil icon near the name.

**Cars / Garage** - Cars impact 29% of the outcome of the race. Each car has XP (Experience Points) that determine which of the seven [car classes](https://whitepaper.riotracers.com/cars/car-classes) they are in. Cars can also be [upgraded](https://whitepaper.riotracers.com/cars/car-upgrades) in seven different areas to give them an edge in races.

**Assets** - The game has NFT assets on the Ethereum layer two Polygon Chain in the form of Drivers, Cars, Gas Stations, Racetrack Land, Billboard Land, and Mechanic Shops.

**ROC** - Riot Owners Club is a loyalty rewards club where owners of Genesis Collection assets earn RIOT token rewards.

**RIOT Token** - An Ethereum ERC-20 based token that is the currency of the game and can be traded on Uniswap (ETH Mainnet) and Quickswap (Polygon).

**Race Conditions** - Before entering a race you can view the Weather, Track, and Pit Conditions of each race. Keep this information in mind as you choose your Driver, Car, and Racing Strategy.

**Race Strategy** - This impacts 51% of the outcome of the race and contains all the elements listed below.

**Race Posture** - This is how your Driver will act as they navigate the race track. Options are Aggressive, Defensive, Offensive, Quiet Strength, and Reactive.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - Consider how each posture would impact your driving ability given the weather and track conditions.

**Racing Line** - This is the primary area of the track your Driver will stick to as they navigate the track. Options are Tight, Wide, and Racing.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - Tight is more aggressive, wide is more cautious.

**Engine Strategy** - This is the strategy your pit crew uses to tune your engine before the race. Options are Regular, Over tuned, Under tuned.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - Don't let your pit crew take chances unless you can afford to use them.

**Braking Technique** - This is how your Driver will brake as they race and try to beat all the other racers. Options are Bulk Braking, Soft Braking, Universal Braking, and Late Braking. Bulk Braking allows the car to take full advantage of the track and leverages the directional momentum of the car to slow it down. Soft Braking is most conservative of braking techniques. Universal Braking applies the front and rear brakes evenly. Late braking is similar to Bulk Braking but doesn't take as much advantage of the track.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - If you are late for dinner, cut corners on your way home.

**Tire Strategy** - This strategy is based on what Tire Upgrades your car has. Level 0 is a standard tire. Level 1 is a medium soft tire. Level 2 is a soft tire. Level 3 is an extra soft tire.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - Standard tires have tread, soft tires do not.

**Acceleration Strategy** - This strategy determines how your driver will approach accelerating on the race track. Options are Endurance and Fast Break.\
🧰 *Strategy Tip* - Hit the highway like a battering ram, like a bat out of hell, when the metal is hot.

# Racing Strategy: Beginner's Guide

A community-generated strategy guide for racing beginners, created by Riot Racers Discord members @NinjaPanda and @rhyspjones

**Note**: *This guide assumes a basic understanding of Riot Racers and the assets. For information about these, please see the* [*Whitepaper*](https://whitepaper.riotracers.com/) *and page one of this* [*Quick Start Guide*](/)*.*

### Introduction to Racing

Once you have *a* car and driver, it is time to hit the racetrack! Races are split into two different categories:

* Racing School Races
* Paid Races

**Racing School Races** are free to enter and award small amounts of RIOT tokens to the top 3 racers of each race. The pool of $RIOT tokens awarded increases with the Class of the race, with Rookie being the lowest and Legendary awarding the highest amount of RIOT tokens.

**Paid Races** require a fee of a varying amounts of $RIOT tokens to be paid upon entering the race. These races award $RIOT tokens to the top 3 racers of each race, with larger prize pools than Racing School races. The higher the entry fee, the larger the $RIOT reward prize pool for that race.

#### The outcome of races is determined by:

* **Racing Strategy** (51%)
* **Car Upgrades** (29%)\*
* **Driver Traits** (20%)

*\*As of March 2022, Car Upgrades have not yet been released, so Racing Strategy and Driver selection are pivotal to your success on the track.*

## General Advice

With **Racing Strategy** contributing the most to the outcome of each race, honing in on developing and learning the preferred strategy in different conditions is an integral part of the game.

When starting out, and while you are still in the process of developing your racing strategies, it is recommended that you:

* Gather race data by testing strategies in Racing School and low $RIOT entry fee Paid Races
* Record data on all your races: strategy selections, driver, and race results
* Look to join a team, where you can discuss strategies with other players

### Drivers

There are currently **11,111 Genesis Drivers** in total. Every Driver is unique and carries their own individual visual and race-impacting properties.

Race-Impacting Driver traits are:

* **Type** - Earth, Water, Wind, or Fire
* I**ndividual Skills Ratings** - Braking, Endurance, Handling, Speed, and Vision—each with a range from 50 to 100 (the average being 75)
* **Overall Rating** - The sum of each individual skill, ranging from 323 to 433 (the average being 375)

The different driver **Types** have varied performance in different Race Conditions, and can have the most significant impact on the race outcome of the driver properties. In Season 1, Earth is one of the most versatile driver Types and performs solidly across many Race Conditions.

### Race Conditions

Each race will have its own set of race conditions. These conditions consist of Weather, Track, and Pit Conditions.

In **Season 1**, the combinations of Weather and Track Conditions are:

![](https://2070594784-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MjG1xtZNRjY76RSkSvS%2Fuploads%2FbM2UQQkoJ5i0GyLxakVW%2FSeason%201%20Chart.png?alt=media\&token=e221f8e3-e965-47f2-a19a-b6a85fe5edac)

Within each of these combinations, there are four different **Pit Conditions**:

* Fast & Efficient
* Fast & Error Prone
* Slow & Efficient
* Slow & Error Prone

The optimal driver and strategy selection depend on the combination of all of the Weather, Track, and Pit Conditions.

## Racing Strategy

When you enter a race, or even beforehand, it is important to look at the Race Conditions before making your selections, including Weather, Track Conditions, and Pit Conditions. It then helps to make an assessment, based on the Race Conditions, on the level of risk and aggression you want to use in your race. Aggressive options should be used in “safe and calm” conditions, while more cautious options should be used in more “risky and dangerous” conditions.

There are **6 different strategy options** to select, in addition to your Driver and Car:

* **Racing Posture** – largely impacted by the Weather and Track Conditions. Consider

 aggression in calm conditions, and a more cautious approach if you might need to

 react quickly to danger in the race
* **Racing Line** – Wide is a more cautious approach, and more useful in more

 dangerous conditions. Tight is more aggressive and more useful in calmer

 conditions
* **Engine Strategy** – Generally, Over-Tuning is the more aggressive approach and

 more suited for calmer conditions, while Under-Tuning is better for poorer conditions
* **Braking Technique** – Bulk Braking is useful in calmer conditions when track traction is good. Soft Braking is useful when a lighter touch is needed, and traction may not

 be great on the track
* **Tire Strategy**\* – Standard tires have tread, which is better for slippery and wet

 conditions. (\*Not as relevant until Car Upgrades are released)
* **Acceleration Strategy** – Endurance is the more cautious approach and better for

 more risky and dangerous conditions, while Fast Break is the opposite and is the more aggressive approach

### Racing Strategy Optimization

After you have made your strategy selections and the race has completed, review your results. While you may or may not have achieved the result you wanted, learning and improving is all possible with practice.

Tracking your race performance in particular race conditions is key to long-term success and consistent results. So, it is recommended that:

* If a strategy lands you at the back of the pack, try to mix things up the next time

 those conditions reappear
* If a strategy lands you in the middle of the pack, try to tweak just one selection at a

 time, rather than mixing up all of the selections. For example, if you used Universal

 Braking previously, try Bulk Braking, or vice versa
* If a strategy lands you a win, congratulations! Try repeating that strategy to see if

 you obtain consistent results. If not, you can try to tweak one selection at a time to optimize your strategy

### Documenting and Sharing Strategies

While everyone will have their own methods for developing their strategies and recording race data, a Google Sheets template for recording race data can be found [here](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1XR7lfV-Y_XlBXadO63y0hrGAi67Z9pXc8E0cEh6aJJA/edit?usp=sharing). Please note:

* You will need to create a copy of the file clicking on File, then Make a copy
* For shared team data, it is recommended that the Team Captain be designated as

 the file owner
* To share access of your file, click on Share and select from the options there. Any

 co-contributors will require “Editor” level of access

### Finally...

Throughout your racing journey, it is important to remember:

* Racing Strategy is the largest (51%) determining factor of the race outcome; and

 learning this is a fundamental part of the game
* Start small and race your way up to the larger prize pool races as you gain

 confidence in your strategies
* To succeed in a wide range of Racing Conditions, you will want to use Drivers with

 different Types (Earth, Water, Wind, Fire)
* Learning from your past performance is the best way to improve your performance in

 the future
* Have fun!
